Heavy Rains Floods Displace Afrin IDPs in Tabqa Camp, Escalating Suffering Amid Harsh Winter
Displaced residents in Tabqa and Raqqa continue to endure severe hardships, facing acute shortages of heating, food, and essential services as winter conditions persist

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Torrential rains in the city of Tabqa on Wednesday inundated at least 150 tents in the Sports City Camp, home to thousands of forcibly displaced residents from Afrin, Rojava exacerbating already dire living conditions.
A local source informed Kurdistan 24 that the camp, which consists of more than 1,077 tents, suffered significant flooding, prompting emergency evacuations, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals with special needs.
“The camp lacks basic infrastructure, as it was originally a stadium with a muddy ground unsuitable for habitation,” the source explained.
Harsh Conditions for Afrin IDPs
Displaced residents in Tabqa and Raqqa continue to endure severe hardships, facing acute shortages of heating, food, and essential services as winter conditions persist.
The forced displacement of Afrin’s original population following the fall of the Assad regime and the offensive by the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) on al-Shahba camp, where many Afrin IDPs sought refuge.
The attack has been widely condemned by human rights organizations and they warned that such actions constitute violations of fundamental rights and pose a serious threat to the cultural and historical identity of the Kurdish population in the region.
Despite repeated humanitarian appeals, displaced communities remain in precarious and temporary shelters, struggling against harsh weather conditions and inadequate assistance.
