KRP Nechirvan Barzani, Kuwaiti PM Discuss Bilateral Relations, Regional Stability

Their discussions focused on strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Kuwait, fostering regional stability, and addressing pressing geopolitical challenges.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of Kuwait, on Friday on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Their discussions focused on strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Kuwait, fostering regional stability, and addressing pressing geopolitical challenges.

Both leaders reaffirmed the strong historical ties between Kuwait and the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing the importance of expanding joint cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, and humanitarian initiatives.

Kurdistan Region President Barzani acknowledged Kuwait’s continued support for development projects in the Kurdistan Region, while Sheikh Ahmad expressed Kuwait’s interest in further strengthening its engagement with Erbil.

The meeting also covered broader Iraq-Kuwait relations, highlighting the importance of diplomatic dialogue in resolving outstanding issues and fostering economic partnerships. Both sides agreed on the need to enhance cooperation in regional security and economic integration.

Regional Security and Counterterrorism Efforts

A key focus of the discussions was the evolving security situation in the Middle East, particularly the latest developments in Iraq and Syria.

Kurdistan Region President and the Kuwaiti Prime Minister stressed the necessity of maintaining regional peace and stability while ensuring that countries in the region are kept away from conflicts and geopolitical complications.

Regarding Syria, both leaders underscored the importance of safeguarding the rights of all its ethnic and religious components.

They emphasized the need for a comprehensive and inclusive political solution that guarantees stability and respects the rights of all communities within Syria.

Additionally, the meeting addressed ongoing counterterrorism efforts, particularly in the fight against ISIS. Both sides reiterated their commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at eradicating extremist threats and ensuring long-term security in the region.

The Kurdistan Region has played a pivotal role in counterterrorism operations, and Kuwait has consistently supported regional security efforts through diplomatic and humanitarian contributions.

The discussions between Kurdistan Region President Barzani and Prime Minister  Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah reflect a mutual commitment to fostering stronger diplomatic and economic ties while working collectively to promote peace and stability in the region.

The meeting underscored the Kurdistan Region’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with Gulf nations, reinforcing its role as a key player in regional security and cooperation.
