President Nechirvan Barzani Meets Estonian President Alar Karis in Munich

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Estonian President Alar Karis on Friday on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

The two leaders discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Estonia, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, focusing on security cooperation, technological advancements, and educational exchange programs.

During the meeting, Kurdistan Region President Barzani expressed his gratitude for Estonia’s contributions to the international coalition against terrorism.

He acknowledged Estonia’s role in counter-terrorism efforts and its commitment to regional stability, highlighting potential areas of collaboration in technology and higher education.

President Karis reaffirmed Estonia’s interest in expanding ties with the Kurdistan Region and extended a formal invitation to Kurdistan Region President Barzani to visit Estonia.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in various fields, particularly in security, where Estonia has played a role within the international coalition, and in technological innovations that could benefit the Kurdistan Region.

The discussion also covered key political developments in the Kurdistan Region, including preparations for the Kurdistan Parliament elections and efforts to form the next Kurdistan Regional Government.

Both leaders exchanged perspectives on broader regional dynamics, particularly concerning Iraq and Syria, underlining the need for continued engagement to promote stability and security in the region.
