ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region Presidency on Monday strongly condemned the actions of the Iraqi military against Kurdish farmers in the village of Shanagha, located in the Sargaran subdistrict, calling the measures entirely unacceptable.

The spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, Dilshad Shahab, issued a statement denouncing the restrictions imposed by Iraqi forces, emphasizing that such actions cannot be tolerated.

“This behavior is completely unacceptable,” Shahab said, adding that the Presidency has been closely monitoring the situation and has urged relevant authorities to take immediate action against those responsible. The Presidency also called for necessary measures to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.

Furthermore, Shahab warned that such actions threaten social harmony and peaceful coexistence. “All sides must reject this type of treatment and behavior. The perpetrators should be held accountable and face legal consequences,” he stressed.

President Masoud Barzani on Monday condemned the threats against Kurdish farmers and called on the Iraqi government to take immediate action to protect their rights. He urged the prosecution of those responsible and reaffirmed the necessity of upholding legal decisions that restore land ownership to its rightful claimants.

On the same day, the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister's office strongly condemned the illegal actions of the Iraqi army, preventing Kurdish farmers from accessing their lands in Kirkuk’s Sargaran district. The Prime Minister’s office emphasized that the Iraqi army’s actions contradict the country’s constitution and the foundations of the new Iraq. The KRG remains steadfast in ensuring that legal and constitutional rights are upheld for all communities.

The latest tensions highlight ongoing disputes over land and administrative control in disputed territories, where Kurdish farmers have repeatedly faced challenges from Iraqi security forces. The Kurdistan Region Presidency has called on Baghdad to address these concerns and ensure the rights of local communities are protected.
