Heroes at Sea: U.S. Navy and Coast Guard Rescue Mariners from Sinking Iranian Vessel

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - In a remarkable display of professionalism and humanitarian commitment, personnel aboard the USS Devastator (MCM 6) and the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Clarence Sutphin Jr. (WPC 1147) successfully rescued seven mariners from a sinking Iranian commercial vessel in the Arabian Gulf.

The distressed vessel, M/V Shayesteh, which was flying a Qatari flag per maritime customs, sent a mayday call after experiencing a severe list. Responding swiftly, U.S. Navy and Coast Guard personnel navigated the challenging conditions and safely evacuated five Iranian and two Indian mariners before the vessel succumbed to the sea. The rescued mariners are now receiving medical care aboard the U.S. Coast Guard cutter.
