ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In his address at the 7th Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, Kurdistan Region’s President (KRP) Nechirvan Barzani called for national unity and strategic economic renewal, underscoring that Iraq’s future depends on cooperation, integration, and a shared vision for stability.

Speaking before a distinguished gathering that included Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and other key regional figures, the Regional President emphasized that the nation stands at a crossroads where constructive partnership must replace conflict and division.

A Vision for a Unified Iraq

Kurdistan Region’s President Barzani’s remarks, marked by a blend of solemnity and optimism, resonated deeply with the conference’s theme of openness and regional integration.

“Iraq’s political and economic stability is a shared national interest,” he declared, calling on all Iraqis—from Zakho to Faw—to rally behind the Development Road Project, a historic initiative designed to knit the country’s regions together.

Barzani argued that the project should serve as a unifying national endeavor, transcending ethnic, religious, and sectarian lines to bolster the country’s overall prosperity.

Highlighting Iraq’s strategic geographic position and its wealth of natural and human resources, the Kurdistan Region’s President outlined a blueprint for turning the nation into a major economic hub.

“Iraq has the potential to be an active economic center, bridging the Gulf, Europe, East, and West,” he noted, provided that it establishes a solid legal and sustainable economic framework.

Such a framework, he stressed, must encourage domestic and foreign investment, underpinning major infrastructure projects that can drive economic development and ensure long-term stability.

Bridging Regional Divides and Fostering Cooperation

At the heart of KRP Barzani’s address was a call for genuine political dialogue and responsible governance. He asserted that true progress in Iraq hinges on the willingness of its political parties and regional leaders to engage in honest, constructive discussions aimed at resolving long-standing issues.

“Our success depends on managing our diversity and strengthening the spirit of partnership,” Barzani said, underlining that political dialogue based on mutual understanding is essential for overcoming the complexities that have historically marred Iraq’s development.

Barzani also commended the Iraqi government’s diplomatic efforts, particularly those led by Prime Minister al-Sudani, noting that such initiatives prove Iraq’s capability to serve as a bridge for dialogue rather than a battlefield for conflict.

He maintained that fostering a secure environment through robust security strategies is equally vital, as sustained stability reassures investors and lays the groundwork for comprehensive national progress.

A Roadmap for Stability and Prosperity

The Kurdistan Region President’s address arrived at a time when Iraq is navigating a phase of profound strategic change.

With internal differences and regional uncertainties posing significant challenges, Barzani’s vision for a unified, economically vibrant Iraq is both timely and necessary.

He articulated that the Development Road Project is not merely an economic initiative, but a strategic move to consolidate Iraq’s statehood and reinforce its domestic and regional security.

He urged that the project become a symbol of Iraq’s ability to harness its diversity as a source of strength rather than division.

“It should be an example of genuine partnership among Iraqis of every nationality, religion, and sect,” Barzani asserted, framing the initiative as a critical step towards transforming Iraq into one of the world’s economic powerhouses.

Looking to the Future

Concluding his remarks, Kurdistan Region President Barzani reiterated his gratitude to the Iraqi Institute for organizing the conference and expressed hope that the event would yield actionable recommendations for a brighter, more inclusive future for Iraq.

His message was clear: sustainable planning, serious political will, and wise strategic partnerships are indispensable to turning Iraq’s vast potential into a reality.

In an era marked by rapid geopolitical shifts, KRP Barzani’s call for unity and economic revival serves as both a reminder and a rallying cry for Iraq to seize the opportunities presented by its rich resources and strategic position.

His address not only charted a course toward national development but also reinforced the notion that Iraq’s destiny lies in the strength of its collective will to overcome past divisions and build a future defined by peace, prosperity, and enduring stability.
