ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Region's General Directorate of Meteorology and Seismology has issued a 48-hour weather forecast, warning of plummeting temperatures, snowfall, and icy conditions across multiple areas, particularly in high-altitude regions.

The cold wave is expected to bring freezing temperatures, with weather conditions affecting visibility and travel safety.

According to the forecast, Sunday will see cold and partly cloudy conditions, with snow anticipated on mountain peaks and various elevated regions.

As nighttime sets in, frost and ice formation are expected, posing potential risks for transportation and outdoor activities.

Winds will blow from the northeast at speeds of 10 to 20 kilometers per hour, while visibility is predicted to drop to just four kilometers, further complicating travel.

On Monday, the forecast predicts a continuation of the cold spell, with early morning frost and ice covering much of the region.

Mountainous areas will experience increased cloud cover, and temperatures are expected to remain at freezing or near-freezing levels throughout the day.

Predicted Maximum Temperatures (°C):

Erbil: 3°C
Sulaimani: 1°C
Duhok: 0°C
Kirkuk: 4°C
Zakho: 0°C
Garmian: 5°C

The extreme weather conditions come as the region experiences a particularly harsh winter, emphasizing the need for residents to take precautionary measures. Authorities have urged citizens, particularly those in remote and mountainous areas, to prepare for potential disruptions and exercise caution while traveling.

With temperatures set to drop further, the Meteorology Directorate continues to monitor the evolving weather patterns, providing updates to ensure public safety and preparedness during this cold front.
