Erdogan Sees ‘Historic Opportunity’ After Ocalan’s Call for PKK Disarmament

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described Abdullah Ocalan’s call for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to disarm and dissolve itself as a "historic opportunity" to advance efforts toward national security and stability.

Erdogan’s Perspective on Disarmament

Speaking in Ankara on Friday, Erdogan emphasized that Ocalan’s message could mark a turning point in addressing Turkey’s long-standing security challenges. 

“We have a historic opportunity to dismantle the wall of terrorism,” he said, underscoring his government's commitment to ensuring an inclusive national environment. 

"Our primary duty is to establish and strengthen a climate of unity where no one feels excluded," he added.

Ocalan’s Call for the PKK to Dissolve

On Thursday, Ocalan, the imprisoned PKK leader, issued an message urging the group to lay down arms and formally dissolve.
