ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdish community in the United States marked the national celebration of Newroz with a vibrant ceremony at the American University in Washington, DC, on Thursday. The event brought together students, US citizens, and Kurdish diaspora members to honor the occasion's cultural and historical significance.

Hawzhin Abdurrahman, a Kurdish-American, emphasized the importance of passing Newroz traditions to younger generations. Speaking to Kurdistan24, he stated, “We pay attention to this occasion to introduce it to our children because it is not only about lighting fires and drinking but also about the history of a nation.”

The event featured discussions on Kurdish history, culture, and the broader significance of Newroz beyond its traditional festivities. Attendees highlighted the occasion as a moment of renewal and unity.

“I see Newroz as a beautiful occasion to prepare for the New Year,” said Znaida Rob, a US citizen who attended the celebration.
