ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – As thousands gathered to celebrate Newroz in Diyarbakır (also known as Amed), Leyla Zana, a prominent Kurdish political figure, delivered a powerful message emphasizing the urgent need for peace across the Middle East. In a statement that resonated with both the Kurdish people and broader regional audiences, Zana urged all parties to embrace dialogue and negotiation as the only viable path to resolving longstanding conflicts.

Speaking to Kurdistan24 correspondent Hero Mawloodi on Friday, Zana underscored the critical role of trust and unity in achieving peace.

“No one can achieve peace for the Kurds; for this to happen, we must all trust each other,” she stated, making a strong call for collective Kurdish responsibility in peace efforts.

Her words reflected a deep understanding of the region’s complex political landscape, where historical grievances and ongoing disputes have often hindered reconciliation.

Zana went beyond the Kurdish question, stressing that the necessity for peace extends far beyond Kurdish communities. “Kurds alone do not need peace; the entire Middle East needs peace. Therefore, we call on everyone to participate in the peace process because peace benefits everyone,” she declared.

Her remarks highlighted the interconnectedness of regional conflicts and the importance of broader cooperation in resolving disputes.

As conflicts continue to ravage parts of the Middle East, Zana expressed hope for an end to hostilities, urging all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue. “The Middle East has endured endless cycles of violence and instability. We must break this pattern and work together to find solutions that benefit all people,” she asserted. Her message was clear: the path to stability lies in diplomacy, negotiation, and mutual understanding.

Zana’s call for peace comes at a time of heightened tensions in various parts of the region, with geopolitical rivalries and internal disputes fueling instability. Her appeal reinforces the growing demand for political solutions that prioritize reconciliation over confrontation.

The Newroz celebrations in Amed provided a symbolic backdrop for Zana’s message. Traditionally a festival marking renewal, resistance, and hope, Newroz has long been associated with the Kurdish struggle for rights and recognition. This year, amid the fire-lit hills and vibrant festivities, Zana’s words added a crucial dimension to the occasion—one that champions dialogue over division and unity over discord.

As the Middle East navigates an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape, voices like Leyla Zana’s continue to emphasize that peace is not just a Kurdish aspiration, but a regional necessity. Whether political leaders and stakeholders will heed this call remains to be seen, but the message is clear: lasting peace can only be achieved through trust, negotiation, and a shared commitment to ending conflict.
