ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to embark on a two-day official visit to the United States on Tuesday, where he will engage in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key regional issues.

According to Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency, Fidan will meet with his U.S. counterpart, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with other senior American officials. The visit underscores Ankara’s efforts to enhance strategic ties with Washington at a time of evolving geopolitical challenges.

Turkish diplomatic sources indicate that discussions will center on deepening bilateral cooperation and exploring new strategic steps to reinforce diplomatic and security partnerships. Additionally, preparations for future high-level visits between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Donald Trump will be on the agenda.

Fidan is expected to present Turkey’s perspective on regional affairs, reaffirming Ankara’s commitment to Syria’s stability and territorial integrity. A key focus of his visit will be advocating for the lifting of sanctions on Syria, enhancing Turkish-U.S. collaboration in humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts, and strengthening coordination in countering ISIS.

Another major issue on the table is security cooperation. Fidan is anticipated to stress the importance of combatting terrorist organizations, particularly the Fethullah Gülen movement and Kurdish militant groups, including the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), designated as a terrorist organization by the European Union, the United States, and Turkey and its Syrian affiliate, the YPG, which operates under the umbrella of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Erdogan’s Advisor to Meet U.S. National Security Chief

In a parallel diplomatic engagement, Turkish Presidential Advisor for Foreign Policy and Security Akif Çağatay Kılıç is scheduled to meet U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz in Washington on Tuesday. Their discussions will cover bilateral ties, regional security dynamics, and plans for an upcoming meeting between Erdoğan and Trump.

Fidan’s visit comes at a pivotal moment in Turkish-American relations, as both nations seek to recalibrate their strategic partnership amid shifting power dynamics in the Middle East and growing global security concerns.
