ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a significant development, Omer Ocalan, the nephew of the imprisoned Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan, and his family were granted the rare opportunity to visit him closely at Imrali Prison on Monday. This marks the first time in many years that Ocalan’s relatives have been allowed to meet him directly on the island.

Following the visit, Omer Ocalan shared a message from Abdullah Ocalan on the social media platform X. In his message, the PKK leader expressed his appreciation for the ongoing efforts toward peace and reconciliation, particularly the enthusiastic response to the “Call for Peace and a Democratic Society” during the Newroz celebrations.

"I salute our people for embracing the Call for Peace and a Democratic Society with great enthusiasm on Newroz. Once again, I congratulate our people on Newroz and Eid al-Fitr," Ocalan conveyed in his message, highlighting the importance of peace and unity.

This visit and the message come after a previous statement made by Abdullah Ocalan on Feb. 27, where he called for the disarmament of the PKK, a move seen as a significant step toward peace negotiations.
