ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed hope on Wednesday that the new government would be formed before the end of April, describing ongoing discussions with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) as constructive and progressing well.
PM Barzani made the remarks shortly after arriving at the American University of Iraq–Sulaimani (AUIS) to participate in the Ninth Sulaimani Forum 2025, a high-profile event bringing together local and international officials, academics, and policymakers. The forum continues through Thursday, April 17.
“We hold deep respect for Sulaimani — it is our city,” PM Barzani told reporters, emphasizing unity and shared belonging. His remarks reflected a clear intent to strengthen political reconciliation and reaffirm the importance of Sulaimani as a central part of the Kurdistan Region.
Speaking on the margins of the forum, the Prime Minister confirmed that the KDP-PUK dialogue is progressing positively. “The talks between the two parties are moving forward. We are hopeful that we can form the new government as soon as possible. Let’s wait and see,” he stated.
When asked whether the cabinet formation could materialize before the end of the month, Barzani responded succinctly: “I hope so.”
This year’s Sulaimani Forum provides a platform for dialogue and consensus-building. With key figures from the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and abroad in attendance, the forum underscores the urgent need for partnership in navigating regional uncertainties and promoting institutional cohesion.
