Kurdish Karate Champion Mabast Fayeq Wins Silver on International Stage

Although he narrowly missed the gold in the final match, the silver marks his second medal of the tournament and adds to his growing list of international achievements.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdish athlete Mabast Fayeq has once again brought pride to the Kurdistan Region, earning a silver medal at a major European karate championship held in Russia. Representing Kurdistan and Iraq in the 84 kg weight category, Fayeq excelled among athletes from 24 countries and advanced to the final round of the competition.

Although he narrowly missed the gold in the final match, the silver marks his second medal of the tournament and adds to his growing list of international achievements. Fayeq, a native of Sulaimani, has been a consistent member of the Iraq Karate Federation team for more than five years and currently ranks fifth in Asia.

His success in Russia follows previous victories, including a gold medal at a championship in Armenia. Over the years, he has competed in several world tournaments, collecting medals and recognition for his skill and dedication.

Fayeq’s accomplishments highlight the growing presence of Kurdish athletes on the global sports stage, with champions emerging in karate, boxing, MMA, and other disciplines. His recent success reinforces the message that Kurdish stars are not only shining at home but are also earning respect and acclaim around the world.
