ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani announced on Thursday that the Trump administration has expressed firm support for the Region’s recent energy agreements and broader strategic partnership with the United States.

Speaking at a press conference during his visit to Washington, Prime Minister Barzani said, “We received strong support from the Trump administration. They are ready to support both these contracts and the continuation of relations at all levels.”

The Prime Minister described his meeting with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright as “very productive,” noting that the discussions focused on the Kurdistan Region’s energy development and its importance to the wider Iraqi economy. He emphasized that the agreements with American energy firms WesternZagros and HKN will bring long-term benefits to all Iraqis.

“We are only accountable for the decisions we make,” Barzani stated. “We have decided to develop the energy sector in the Kurdistan Region, which will benefit all Iraqis as well as the Kurdistan Region.”

He further stressed the importance of deepening ties with Washington. “We need the Trump administration to assist the Kurdistan Region more than ever. We are now respected as a strategic ally of the United States, and we look forward to advancing these relations to a higher level.”

Prime Minister Barzani also noted that the KRG delegation has held constructive meetings on Capitol Hill and will continue consultations with U.S. officials in the coming days. He reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region remains a committed partner in the fight against terrorism and a reliable ally of the United States.

In closing, Barzani called for collective efforts to resume oil exports, saying it is in the shared interest of the Kurdistan Region, the federal government in Baghdad, and the broader Iraqi economy.
