ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The United States has confirmed that it was not involved in Israel's unilateral military action against Iran in the early hours of Friday morning, June 13, 2025. In an official statement issued by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the U.S. emphasized that its primary concern remains the protection of American personnel and interests in the region.
“Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region,” the statement reads.
According to Secretary Rubio, the Israeli government informed Washington that the operation was carried out in what it described as an act of self-defense. The details of the attack have not yet been publicly confirmed by either government, but it reportedly targeted sites in and around the Iranian capital, Tehran.
The statement also stressed that President Donald Trump and his administration are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of U.S. personnel and assets in the region. “President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners,” Rubio stated.
In a clear message to Tehran, the U.S. warned against any retaliatory action targeting American interests. “Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel,” the Secretary added.
