Suspected Drone Incident Sparks Fire in Sulaimani's Suburbs

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — A loud explosion and subsequent fire were reported in the Tasluja neighborhood located in the suburbs of Sulaimani on Tuesday, following the crash of two drones near a military facility, according to Kurdistan24.

The blast was heard across the area and prompted a swift response from local security forces. Aram Bakhtiar, a Kurdistan24 reporter, stated that the explosion occurred near the 70th Unit of the Peshmerga Forces.

A reliable security source informed Kurdistan24 that the drones are believed to have been shot down by a U.S. radar defense system operating within the command post of the Peshmerga unit. One of the drones reportedly crashed between the Tasluja neighborhood and the military site.

“Two drones crashed in the Tasluja neighborhood of Sulaimani on Tuesday. Investigation teams from the security forces immediately arrived at the scene and began their investigation,” said Salam Abdulkhaliq, head of the Sulaimani-based Asayish (security forces).

As of now, no official statement has been issued by the security forces detailing the origin of the drones or the circumstances surrounding the incident. No casualties have been reported.

Authorities are continuing their investigation.
