ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Liverpool and the wider football world are in mourning after the sudden and tragic death of Portuguese international forward Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident in Spain at the age of 28.
The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Zamora province, when Jota’s Lamborghini veered off the road following a tire blowout while overtaking another vehicle. The vehicle subsequently caught fire. Jota’s younger brother, 25-year-old André Silva—also a professional footballer with Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel—was killed in the same incident.
Spain’s Guardia Civil confirmed the timing and circumstances of the crash, stating that both brothers died at the scene.
The devastating news comes just 11 days after Jota celebrated his wedding to long-time partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children. The loss has sent shockwaves through both the football community and the public in Portugal, England, and beyond.
