ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Aysegul Dogan, spokesperson for the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), announced during a press conference on Thursday that significant progress is underway toward a historic disarmament process involving the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

“The coming days are crucial and historic for the disarmament process of the PKK,” Dogan stated. “According to the information we have received, preparations are underway to initiate this process. We are entering a new phase.”

She emphasized that the process is set to take place in the Kurdistan Region and will be carried out in accordance with the recommendations issued during the recent PKK congress. A key component of the new phase, she noted, is the expected formation of a parliamentary commission to oversee and guide the process.

“There is consensus on the formation of the parliamentary commission, which will play a vital role in determining the next steps,” Dogan added.

In a related development, Turkish media outlets Hürriyet and Mezopotamya News reported that imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan is expected to deliver a new message to the PKK leadership concerning the disarmament initiative. This anticipated communication is seen as a potential catalyst for advancing peace efforts.

The developments mark a significant turn in efforts to address one of Turkey's most enduring conflicts through political and institutional mechanisms, raising cautious optimism about a sustainable peace process.
