ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Halabja province in the Kurdistan Region will soon benefit from 24-hour electricity service under the expanding Runaky (Light) Project, officials announced Thursday.

According to the project’s technical team, the province is expected to be fully integrated into the round-the-clock electricity supply by the end of August. “By late August, the Runaky Project will reach Halabja, benefiting approximately 42,000 households, and the province will soon enjoy uninterrupted 24-hour electricity,” the team said in a statement.

On Wednesday, July 9, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Electricity expressed satisfaction with the growing reach of the Runaky Project. In an official statement, the ministry said the 24-hour power supply now reaches over two million citizens, covering nearly 30% of the Kurdistan Region’s population.

The statement noted that a growing number of residents in major cities—Erbil, Duhok, and Sulaimani—are already receiving continuous electricity. The expanded coverage includes both the 150-meter zone in Erbil and the 60-meter zone in Sulaimani, marking a significant leap in electricity infrastructure.

Officials hailed the project as a major milestone toward providing sustainable, cleaner, and more affordable energy for the region. The transition is also viewed as a key step in promoting a greener environment across Kurdistan.

According to figures released by the KRG, more than 2 million citizens and 544,000 households are now benefiting from 24-hour electricity as part of the initiative, which is gradually reshaping the energy landscape of the Kurdistan Region.
