DEM Party Leaders Visit Selahattin Demirtaş, Emphasize Role in Peace Process
Following the visit, Bakırhan addressed the press, confirming that Demirtaş is in good health and remains actively engaged in discussions surrounding the peace process in Turkey.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Co-chairs of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları, visited former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş in prison on Thursday, highlighting the continued push for peace and democratic dialogue in Turkey.
Following the visit, Bakırhan addressed the press, confirming that Demirtaş is in good health and remains actively engaged in discussions surrounding the peace process in Turkey.
"Demirtaş conveyed his greetings and love to everyone advocating for peace," Bakırhan said. "He is closely following the developments and expressed his strong hope for the successful completion of the peace process."
Bakırhan stressed the importance of releasing political prisoners, particularly those detained in connection with the Kobani case, to enable broader participation in peace efforts. He also noted that the European Court of Human Rights has called for Demirtaş’s release.
“Demirtaş shared both suggestions and constructive criticism with us regarding the peace process,” he added.
The visit comes amid renewed political dialogue in Ankara. Turkish media reports that Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş is set to meet with leaders of various political parties on Friday. The high-level meeting is expected to finalize key principles and procedures for a parliamentary commission that could play a vital role in the country’s political reconciliation efforts.
