ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — The Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Directorate (CTD) announced on Monday that a bomb-laden drone crashed early this morning in the Rizgari sub-district of Khabat district, Erbil province, without causing any casualties.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. local time, according to the statement. The directorate confirmed that the drone carried explosives but caused no injuries or deaths.

The attack follows a series of similar drone incidents in recent weeks targeting energy infrastructure across the Kurdistan Region.

In an exclusive interview with Asharq News published on Sunday, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani underscored the importance of unity, regional cooperation, and sustained reform efforts in the face of ongoing drone attacks on oil infrastructure and continuing political challenges.

Barzani confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify those behind the recent drone strikes targeting the Region’s oil facilities. “We have some information, but I prefer to wait until the competent authorities announce their findings,” he said. Although he hinted at having a strong indication of who is responsible, the Prime Minister declined to provide further details until the investigation is complete.

While no group has claimed responsibility for these drone strikes, they represent a growing threat to the Kurdistan Region’s critical energy infrastructure and regional stability. The repeated targeting of oil sites and sensitive locations like the Erbil airport has raised concerns among local authorities and international stakeholders alike.
