ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — At least two people were killed and 13 others injured after an explosion struck the Damascus suburb of Jaramana on Thursday, according to Syria's Health Ministry.

The explosion occurred on a busy commercial street, where residents and emergency responders rushed to assist the wounded. Witnesses told the AP that passengers were inside the minivan when it exploded, and the powerful blast shook nearby buildings.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Jaramana, home to a large Druze community, has experienced periodic unrest amid tensions between some Druze residents and Sunni Muslims who support Syria's current Islamist-led government. In April 2025, at least 10 people were killed in sectarian clashes between Druze gunmen and pro-government fighters.
The bombing marks the third such attack in just over a month, highlighting ongoing security challenges facing Syria's interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa. In early July, two explosions wounded at least 18 people during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Damascus after explosive devices detonated in a garbage bin and a parked car.
Al-Sharaa, who came to power in December 2024 after leading the insurgency that toppled the Assad government, has sought to consolidate state authority, reassure minority communities, and gain broader international support. His administration has pledged political and economic reforms while working to stabilize the country following more than a decade of conflict.
