Iraqi Islamic Resistance Says Attack Postponed After Political Leaders’ Appeals

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Islamic Resistance of Iraq  said Friday that it had postponed a military response planned Friday, following a request from Hadi al-Amiri and what it described as national positions adopted by several political leaders.

In a statement, the group said it had decided to delay the attack and military response that had been scheduled for Friday.

“Responding to Hadi al-Amiri’s request and in consideration of the national positions of several political leaders, we have postponed today’s attack,” the statement said.

The Iraqi Islamic Resistance stressed that the blood of those it described as martyrs would not be used as a commodity in political disputes or compromises.

The Iraqi Islamic Resistance also addressed US forces and their allies in the region, warning that the blood of its fighters and wounded members remained a source of resistance.

“Let both sides know well that the blood of our martyrs and wounded is the source of our steadfastness, and the sovereignty of the country cannot be achieved through shameful statements, but is protected by the arms of patriots who do not compromise over the sanctity of the land and the dignity of the martyrs,” the group said.

The announcement comes after coordinated US and Saudi airstrikes early Wednesday, July 29, 2026, targeting several logistical sites and weapons depots belonging to armed groups within the Popular Mobilization Forces.

The strikes targeted locations in Baghdad, Wasit, Nineveh, Basra and Kirkuk provinces.

On the same day, the Iraqi Islamic Resistance had said it would respond to the US and Saudi strikes after the conclusion of the Arbaeen ceremonies for Imam Hussein.

The group’s latest statement now says the military response planned for Friday has been postponed following Hadi al-Amiri’s request and appeals from several political leaders.
