ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen's Houthi movement announced on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, that it had intercepted and destroyed a drone in Saudi Arabia's Mecca region, amid repeated attacks on the kingdom by the Iran-aligned group.

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki confirmed the interception in a brief statement published on social media, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

"Interception and destruction of a drone in the Mecca region," al-Malki wrote.

The spokesman provided no further information about the precise location of the interception, when the drone was detected or what its intended destination might have been.

He also did not identify the origin of the aircraft or the party responsible for launching it.

The announcement comes amid repeated attacks by Yemen's Houthis against Saudi Arabia, where the Saudi-led coalition has been engaged in conflict with the Iran-aligned movement.

However, the coalition's statement did not directly attribute Friday's incident to the Houthis.

No immediate information was provided about possible casualties, material damage or disruptions resulting from the interception.

Although al-Malki identified the Mecca region as the location, the statement did not establish that the drone entered or approached the city of Mecca itself.

The circumstances surrounding the drone's launch, flight path and interception remain unclear.
