Iraq, Egypt foreign ministers stress de-escalation amid regional tensions
Fouad Hussein and Badr Abdelatty discuss strengthening bilateral ties and advancing Iraq-Egypt-Jordan cooperation
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Saturday stressed the importance of reducing regional tensions and supporting efforts to achieve de-escalation, according to Iraq’s Foreign Ministry.
Hussein held a telephone call with Abdelatty, during which the two ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and Egypt and expand cooperation across various fields, the ministry said in a statement carried by the state-owned Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The talks also focused on continued coordination and consultations over regional issues of common interest.
The two ministers reviewed the latest developments in the region and emphasized the need to reduce escalation and support efforts aimed at achieving calm, saying such efforts would contribute to strengthening regional security and stability.
Hussein and Abdelatty also reaffirmed the importance of continuing to support the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Iraq, Egypt and Jordan.
The ministers stressed the need to build on progress achieved through the trilateral framework to expand opportunities for economic integration, development and shared prosperity among the three countries.
The Iraq-Egypt-Jordan cooperation mechanism has sought to deepen political and economic coordination among the three countries, including cooperation in energy, trade, infrastructure and investment, while providing a platform for consultations on regional developments.
The latest call comes amid continued regional tensions and diplomatic efforts by Arab states to prevent further escalation and promote dialogue and stability.
