Kurdistan Region Tourism Projects Set to Transform Rawanduz Into Year-Round Destination
Kawlokan Corniche and other service projects move into implementation as the Soran tourism master plan advances
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Several major tourism and service projects are moving into the implementation phase in Rawanduz district as part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s efforts to develop the tourism sector, with local officials saying the completion of the master plan for the Soran Independent Administration will usher the area’s tourism industry into a new phase.
Ahmed Qadir, mayor of Rawanduz district, told Kurdistan24 on Wednesday that the Kawlokan Corniche project in the Rawanduz area is being implemented as part of a comprehensive tourism master plan approved by the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister.
He said the plan covers several tourism destinations across Rawanduz and other parts of the Soran Independent Administration, with the overall designs for a number of projects now completed and implementation underway.
“Several tourism areas within Rawanduz district are included in the tourism master plan, and their overall designs have now been completed,” Qadir said.
According to the district mayor, completing the tourism master plan for the Soran Independent Administration will open a new chapter for the region’s tourism sector, particularly in Rawanduz, and could help attract thousands of visitors throughout all four seasons.
Qadir said the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has placed strong emphasis on diversifying development projects and has given particular attention to expanding the tourism sector in the Soran Independent Administration.
Service projects advance alongside tourism development
Alongside tourism projects, several service and infrastructure projects are also being implemented in Rawanduz in coordination with the Soran Independent Administration.
“We are working in coordination with the Soran Independent Administration to complete several projects,” Qadir said. “One of them is the Doli Akoyan Water Project, which will benefit dozens of villages.”
The projects are intended to strengthen essential infrastructure while supporting the broader tourism development strategy in the area.
The tourism master plan for the Soran Independent Administration is a strategic project of the Kurdistan Regional Government being implemented with the support of local specialists and foreign companies.
Its primary objectives are to transform the area into an international tourism hub while preserving its natural environment and landscapes.
The master plan covers tourism and development projects across the districts of Soran, Choman and Rawanduz, as well as several other areas within the Soran Independent Administration.
With the gradual implementation of its projects, officials say the plan could significantly expand Rawanduz’s tourism infrastructure, diversify visitor attractions and establish the area as a destination capable of welcoming tourists throughout the year.
