Wadi Al-Qiyamah Becomes a Summer Haven in Kurdistan Region
Wadi Al-Qiyamah (Valley of Judgment), has become a popular summer destination for families from across Kurdistan and central and southern Iraq.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Amid towering mountains, flowing streams, and cool spring waters, Wadi Al-Qiyamah popularly known as “Geli Qiyama” or “Valley of Judgment,” has emerged as a favored summer resort in Atrosh subdistrict of Sheikhan district, offering visitors a refreshing escape from the region’s intense summer heat.
The resort has grown beyond a recreational destination for residents of the surrounding area and Kurdistan’s provinces, becoming a major attraction for dozens of families traveling from central and southern Iraq, particularly nearby Mosul, in search of cooler weather and a peaceful setting.
Mohammed Samih, a visitor from Mosul, said to Kurdistan24: “We came to spend the weekend at this beautiful resort near the center of Sheikhan district. It is the preferred destination for people from Mosul to enjoy the fresh air and refreshing atmosphere. We thank those managing the site for their hospitality and services.”
Another visitor, Kamil Raouf, said the resort’s atmosphere and hospitality have encouraged him to return repeatedly.
“This is my fourth visit to this place. The weather here is wonderful and the service is excellent, which makes us eager to keep coming back,” he said.
The resort is distinguished by its unique design, with shaded structures and wooden seating areas built directly over the streams and flowing waterfalls, allowing visitors to spend time beside the cool spring waters while enjoying the available recreational services.
The growing flow of visitors has also created new economic opportunities in the area. Resort operators say the site has opened new sources of employment and income for dozens of young people from neighboring villages.
The resort receives more than 500 visitors daily from different parts of Iraq, who come to enjoy its natural surroundings and shaded mountain landscape.
With a history stretching back around 42 years, Keli Belkip continues to welcome visitors seeking its natural beauty and distinctive scenery, many of whom return repeatedly.
