Iraq to Use National Card for Future Elections
Iraqi Prime has directed the use of the national card in future elections to facilitate voting and strengthen transparency.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi chaired a joint meeting between the Ministry of Interior and the Independent High Electoral Commission, directing preparations to use the national card in the country’s future elections to facilitate voting and safeguard transparency.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, was attended by the director of the office of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, the director general of civil status, passports and residency, several ministry officers, and the chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Media Office, Zaidi praised the commission’s work in administering previous elections, highlighting the high level of transparency and competence demonstrated in the process.
He called for the commission to maintain the same momentum and begin preparations early for the upcoming elections.
Zaidi also stressed the importance of protecting citizens’ votes, saying that safeguarding their votes means safeguarding their future.
“Whoever owns their vote owns their future,” Zaidi said.
He again emphasized the need to provide all requirements necessary to ensure citizens can exercise their voting rights easily and transparently.
According to the statement, Zaidi directed that the national card be used in future elections. As part of the decision, he instructed the Ministry of Interior to provide all necessary information and data to facilitate the commission’s work and complete the procedures required to implement the measure.
“The use of the national card in the electoral process will facilitate voting for citizens and increase the accuracy of information,” Zaidi said.
The meeting also reviewed the steps and mechanisms required to complete all technical and administrative preparations for relying on the national card in future elections.
Coordination between the Ministry of Interior and the electoral commission was also discussed to ensure preparations are implemented within the designated timeframe.
