ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Qasim Tahir Saleh, a member of the German Federal Parliament affiliated with the Green Party, on Wednesday in a meeting that covered Germany's longstanding support for the Kurdistan Region, the latest regional developments, and ways to deepen bilateral ties across all sectors.

During the meeting, President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his high appreciation for the German parliament's support for the Kurdistan Region during difficult times, particularly in the fight against terrorism, as well as Germany's care for and assistance to displaced Yazidi refugees.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the region and ways to further strengthen the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Germany across all fields, as a second major theme of the meeting.

Germany has been one of the Kurdistan Region's most consistent European partners since the emergence of ISIS in 2014, providing military training to Peshmerga forces, humanitarian assistance to displaced communities, and political support for the Region's role as a haven for Yazidi and Christian minorities who fled the genocide and atrocities committed by ISIS across Nineveh and Sinjar. The meeting with a Green Party parliamentarian reflects the breadth of that relationship across Germany's political spectrum.
