Kurdistan Region President Welcomes SDF Integration, Urges Kurdish Parties to Support Process
Kurdistan Region President commended SDF leader Mazloum Abdi for his role and efforts in advancing the integration process.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Wednesday welcomed the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syria’s government forces, describing the development as an important step toward strengthening security and stability in Syria.
In a statement posted on X, Barzani said he welcomed the “significant progress” made in integrating the SDF with Syrian government forces and the implementation of agreements between the two sides.
“I view this as an important development for enhancing Syria's security and stability,” Barzani said, calling on all Kurdish parties and Syrian components to support the process and contribute to its success.
Barzani praised Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa for what he described as a “wise vision and responsible approach” to resolving issues through dialogue and understanding, as well as his leadership in guiding Syria toward a better future.
He also commended SDF leader Mazloum Abdi for his role and efforts in advancing the integration process.
“We look forward to the completion of this process, which will mark the beginning of a new phase in Syria,” Barzani said, adding that the next phase should preserve the rights of all Syrian citizens and components and move the country toward greater peace, security, stability, recovery, and prosperity.
On Tuesday, Abdi officially announced that the SDF had completed its integration into Syria’s national military and would cease to exist as an independent armed force.
Speaking alongside al-Sharaa at the presidential palace in Damascus, Abdi said the Kurdish-led force had completed its merger with the Syrian government forces, marking a major step in the implementation of agreements between the two sides.
