Trump Says US Ready for More Strikes on Iran, Floats Renaming Strait of Hormuz
“We blew up much more than their radar last night. It was a very heavy attack last night, and we're prepared to do another one any time we want,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Washington was prepared to launch further attacks on Iran, following an overnight US bombardment that Iranian authorities said killed at least 19 people.
“We blew up much more than their radar last night. It was a very heavy attack last night, and we're prepared to do another one any time we want,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
Trump also suggested renaming the strategically important Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait,” amid continued clashes between US and Iranian forces over the vital waterway.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that the United States had full control of the strait and wrote: “Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT??? Like America itself, it would be ‘hotter’ than ever before!”
The White House later shared a map of the Gulf on social media displaying Trump’s proposed name, adding: “It’s got a nice ring to it.”
Trump has made several proposals to alter geographical names during his second term, in some cases drawing international criticism and appearing intended to provoke or “troll” other countries.
The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. Fresh clashes were reported in and around the waterway as Trump made his remarks.
Hours after suggesting the name change, Trump appeared to indicate that the proposal was not necessarily serious.
