KRG's MyAccount Initiative Now Reaches One Million Citizens, Prime Minister Barzani says

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Masrour Barzani announced on Tuesday that one million citizens on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) payroll will now receive their salaries electronically through partner banks licensed by the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), marking the completion of a three-year initiative to modernize the Region's payment system.

In a statement issued on the official KRG website, Prime Minister Barzani reflected on the origins of the program, known as MyAccount, and its significance for the Kurdistan Region's financial system.

"Three years ago, we promised to move the KRG's cash-based payroll into licensed banks through the MyAccount initiative. I'm pleased to report that this week, one million citizens on the KRG payroll will receive their salaries electronically through partner banks licensed by the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI)."

Prime Minister Barzani described MyAccount as the cornerstone of the government's broader push toward financial inclusion, noting that the program was designed not merely to digitize payments but to open new opportunities for citizens across the Region.

"MyAccount was the foundational program in our commitment to expand financial inclusion. It gives citizens access to credit and modern banking services, while making it easier for the government to enable electronic payments for public services."

According to the Prime Minister, the impact of the program extends well beyond the mechanics of salary payments. He said MyAccount has reshaped how citizens interact with the financial system, giving them tools once out of reach for many households.

"This has been transformational for more than one million citizens. MyAccount has given them greater financial independence, giving them control of their finances and access to a growing ATM network across the Kurdistan Region."

Prime Minister Barzani pointed to one of the most visible changes brought by the program: the disappearance of the long lines that once formed outside government buildings each month as citizens waited to collect their salaries in cash.

"The days of citizens standing in long queues outside government buildings waiting for cash handouts are over."

The Prime Minister closed his statement by thanking those who contributed to the program's rollout over the past three years.

"I thank our people for their patience, our partner banks for their support and investment over the last three years, and the MyAccount team for delivering this national program."

With the payroll transition now complete for one million citizens, MyAccount stands as one of the Kurdistan Regional Government's signature achievements in public financial reform, reflecting a broader strategy to bring modern banking infrastructure to households across the Region.
