Khor Mor Gas Supply Moves Toward Normal, 1,400 MW Restored to Kurdistan Grid

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Gas supplies from the Khor Mor gas field to power generation plants in the Kurdistan Region are moving toward normal levels, the Kurdistan Region’s Electricity Ministry said Thursday, after a sharp reduction in gas supplies caused a significant drop in electricity generation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry said the recovery was achieved through joint efforts by the Electricity Ministry and the Ministry of Natural Resources, in coordination with Dana Gas, the operator of the Khor Mor field.

The ministry said that as a result of the measures taken, around 1,400 megawatts of electricity had been restored to the national power grid over the previous several hours, with electricity supply gradually returning to normal.

The disruption began early Wednesday, when Dana Gas reduced gas supplies from the Khor Mor field by 220 million cubic feet per day, equivalent to about 36 percent of the field’s output, according to the Electricity Ministry.

The reduction had an immediate impact on power generation plants, causing electricity production to fall by approximately 1,000 to 1,300 megawatts.

Following the disruption, the Ministry of Electricity and the Runaki project said on Wednesday that they had maintained continuous communication with Dana Gas and begun efforts to increase gas supplies to the power stations.

At the time, the authorities expected electricity supply hours to increase within six to eight hours and gradually return to the levels recorded before the reduction in gas supplies.

The Khor Mor field is a key source of natural gas for electricity generation in the Kurdistan Region, making its production levels directly linked to the availability and stability of power supplies across the region.
