Prime Minister Barzani Opens Kurdistan Region’s 2026-27 Academic Year
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani rings the bell for the 2026-27 academic year at Global School in Erbil and calls on students to value education, humanity, and the environment.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday, officially marked the start of the new academic year by ringing the school bell at Global School in Erbil, in the presence of Education Minister Dr. Alan Hama Saeed.
Prime Minister Barzani also delivered a speech during the ceremony, addressing students and teachers as the 2026-27 academic year gets underway.
The Prime Minister congratulated teachers and students across the Kurdistan Region on the start of the new academic year and reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s continued support for both groups.
He called on students to attach importance to their studies and, above all, to be people who value humanity and the environment.
“I congratulate the new academic year to the teachers and students of Kurdistan.”

Prime Minister Barzani also linked the importance of education to the sacrifices made by those who came before, calling on students to respect the Peshmerga and their homeland.
“This country is the product of the education of our martyrs, the product of the hard work and sacrifices of our heroic Peshmerga. We must respect the Peshmerga and our homeland.”
He also thanked teachers across the Kurdistan Region for ensuring that the education process did not come to a halt at any stage.
“I thank the teachers of Kurdistan who have not allowed the education process to be disrupted at any stage.”
