Five Wounded in Shooting Outside School in Western Türkiye
Gunman opens fire near high school in Manisa province, with one of the wounded reported in serious condition
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Five people, including students, were wounded after an unidentified gunman opened fire outside a high school in western Türkiye on Tuesday morning, local media reported.
The shooting occurred at around 8 a.m. local time (0500 GMT) in the Turgutlu district of Manisa province, according to the private NTV broadcaster.
One of the wounded was reported to be in serious condition, while further details about the victims’ identities and conditions were not immediately available.
According to local media reports, the unidentified attacker opened fire in the area for reasons that remained unclear before fleeing the scene.
Police and medical teams were dispatched to the area, while authorities launched a search for the suspect. Security measures around the school were also tightened following the shooting.
The incident marks the latest in a series of school-related shootings in Türkiye.
In April, a 14-year-old gunman opened fire at a school in Kahramanmaras province, killing nine students aged 10 and 11 and a teacher. The attacker also died at the scene.
In a separate incident in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, a former student opened fire at his former high school, wounding 16 people before taking his own life when confronted by police.
The incidents have triggered public concern and calls for stronger measures to prevent gun violence. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan previously dismissed a deputy education minister and said the government would introduce measures, including restrictions on gun ownership.
