Korek Telecom wins court ruling overturning Communications Commission merger decision
Korek confirms Iraqi court annulled the Communications and Media Commission's merger contract signed September 23, 2025, with immediate effect, after the company filed a lawsuit on February 6, 2026, and registered its case on Monday
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Korek Telecom Company announced on Monday that an Iraqi court has ruled in its favor, overturning the Communications and Media Commission's decision to dissolve the company's board and impose a financial settlement merger contract on it, in a legal victory the company described as vindicating its decision to pursue the judicial route rather than accept what it characterized as an unjust administrative decision.
In an official statement addressed to its shareholders and the general public, Korek announced: "Our company is pleased to inform its esteemed shareholders and the general public that the Communications and Media Commission of Iraq decided, following a subsequent decision, to dissolve our company's board of directors and impose a financial settlement merger contract between our company and the Commission. On February 6, 2026, our company took the matter to court, and on September 28, 2026, we registered a lawsuit against the Communications and Media Commission. Today, fortunately, the court of first instance ruled to dissolve the merger contract signed between us on September 23, 2025, and ordered it be effective immediately."
Korek stated that while it welcomes the ruling, it reaffirms its commitment to resolving disputes through legitimate legal channels, based on its belief in the rule of law, respect for institutions, and the protection of rights. The company said the judicial route is the correct path for resolving such issues and the appropriate means of self-defense for it and its shareholders against all decisions imposed on the company during the past period.
In its closing remarks, Korek extended unlimited thanks to its shareholders and said it reassures them that it will protect their rights by every means available. The company also expressed hope that the Communications and Media Commission will open a new page free from conflict, removing obstacle after obstacle, so that together they can achieve their shared objective of serving subscribers and developing the telecommunications sector in a manner consistent with the provisions of the law, respect for court decisions, and away from unjust procedures that do not serve the public interest.
