Iraqi Government Approves Popular Mobilization Forces Service And Retirement Legislation
The Iraqi Council of Ministers approved by majority vote a draft law governing service and retirement for the Popular Mobilization Forces and decided to refer it to parliament for consideration.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Iraqi Council of Ministers approved a draft law governing the service and retirement of the Popular Mobilization Forces on Tuesday, voting by majority to refer the legislation to the Iraqi parliament for approval and a vote.
A source from the Iraqi Council of Ministers told Kurdistan24 correspondent Dilan Barzan in Baghdad that the draft law was approved during Tuesday’s regular cabinet meeting.
“During today’s Council of Ministers meeting, the Popular Mobilization Forces draft law was put to a vote and approved by majority. It was also decided that, for the purpose of approval and voting, it would be referred to the Iraqi Council of Representatives ,” the source said.
The decision came during a regular meeting of the Iraqi Council of Ministers chaired by Prime Minister Ali Zaidi, according to a statement issued by the prime minister’s media office.
The statement said the cabinet discussed the general situation in the country, along with a number of important draft laws and decisions during the meeting.
The approval now sends the Popular Mobilization Forces service and retirement legislation to parliament, where it will be considered and put to a vote.
