ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Prime Minister Masrour Barzani laid the foundation stones for a group of strategic Toyota Company projects in Erbil on Wednesday in a ceremony attended by Japan's Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, the Erbil Governor, and the CEO of Toyota Iraq, marking a significant and multi-city expansion of one of the world's most recognized automotive brands across the Kurdistan Region.
The three projects receiving their foundation stones on Wednesday are a spare parts center, an expansion of the pre-delivery inspection center, and Erbil Motor City, a comprehensive automotive development that will position Erbil as a regional hub for the Toyota brand.
The ceremony was attended by Japan's Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Erbil's Governor, and Toyota Iraq's CEO, reflecting the institutional and diplomatic weight that both the Kurdistan Region Government and the Japanese consular presence are placing behind the investment.
Toyota currently operates as one of the world's leading brands in the Kurdistan Region, with existing branches in Erbil, Duhok, and Sulaimani. A new Toyota branch is planned to open in Halabja, completing a four-province presence across the entire Kurdistan Region.
The expansion builds on a sustained track record of Toyota growth in the Region under Prime Minister Barzani's leadership. On September 20, 2025, the Prime Minister inaugurated Toyota's Duhok branch, a facility built on 62,500 square meters that can accommodate 1,200 vehicles simultaneously, one of the largest automotive facilities the brand has opened in the wider region.
In November of last year, Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the government's commitment to attracting major global companies to open branches in the Kurdistan Region, specifically so that young people can benefit from their expertise and experience. Wednesday's three-project foundation stone ceremony is the most concrete implementation yet of that commitment, with Toyota's willingness to simultaneously invest in spare parts infrastructure, pre-delivery processing capacity, and an entire motor city in Erbil reflecting the confidence that global brands have in the Kurdistan Region as a viable and growing market.
