Iraqi Parliament Deputy Speaker: Federal-Peshmerga Coordination Secures Iraq Stability
Farhad Atrushi says coordination between federal forces and the Peshmerga secures stability as the international coalition's mission ends.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iraqi Parliament Deputy Speaker Farhad Atrushi said Wednesday that continued coordination between federal forces and the Peshmerga will secure stability in Iraq, as the international coalition's mission in the country comes to an end.
"Continued coordination and cooperation between federal forces and the Peshmerga in confronting shared challenges ensures stability in the country," Atrushi said on Sept. 30, marking the end of the coalition's mission.
Atrushi said Iraq is entering an important security stage. "We are facing an important security phase, coinciding with the end of the international coalition's mission," he said, adding that this requires strengthening national capabilities and raising the level of coordination and cooperation among the different security institutions and forces.
The deputy speaker stressed that protecting Iraq's sovereignty and the security of its citizens is a shared national responsibility. Cooperation and coordination between federal forces and the Peshmerga, he said, are a fundamental pillar in confronting security challenges and threats and in strengthening stability in the country.
Also on Wednesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi announced the end of coalition forces' presence in Iraq during an official ceremony.
Atrushi reaffirmed that building state institutions in accordance with the constitution, while respecting balance among the country's components, is the most important guarantee of a stable and developing Iraq. He singled out the security and military establishment in particular.
