U.S. Forces Support Shipment of 1.25 Billion Barrels of Gulf Oil Through Hormuz
“In recent months, U.S. forces have supported the shipment of over 1.25 billion barrels of crude oil from Gulf partners and through the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said in a statement.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Thursday that U.S. forces have supported the shipment of more than 1.25 billion barrels of crude oil from Gulf partners and through the Strait of Hormuz in recent months, while Iran has been unable to ship oil through the waterway due to what Washington described as an “ironclad blockade” of Iranian ports.
“In recent months, U.S. forces have supported the shipment of over 1.25 billion barrels of crude oil from Gulf partners and through the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said in a statement.
The command added that Iran has not shipped any barrels during the same period, attributing this to the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports.
The statement highlights the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman through which a significant share of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies normally passes. Any prolonged disruption to shipping through the strait can have major consequences for global energy markets and fuel prices.
The latest U.S. statement comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran and continued efforts by the United States to restrict Iran's oil exports. The Gulf is home to some of the world's largest oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, making the security of energy routes through the region a key U.S. strategic priority.
The United States has maintained a military presence in and around the Gulf for decades, in part to protect freedom of navigation and the movement of energy supplies through key maritime routes.
CENTCOM's statement did not provide further details on the specific operations supporting the oil shipments or the measures involved in preventing Iranian exports.
