Saudi-Led Coalition Strikes Oil Facility Near Yemen’s Sanaa: Houthi Media
Earlier, the Saudi-led coalition had warned civilians to leave the Al-Sabaha station, which belongs to the Yemen Petroleum Company (YPC) and is located near the Houthi-held capital.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Houthi media reported on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia struck an oil facility west of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, after the Saudi-led coalition warned civilians to evacuate the site amid escalating tensions following a series of Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia.
An AFP correspondent in Sanaa reported hearing an explosion, while the Houthis’ Al-Masirah television channel issued a breaking news alert saying that “Saudi aggression targets the oil company in Al-Sabaha, west of Sanaa.”
Earlier, the Saudi-led coalition had warned civilians to leave the Al-Sabaha station, which belongs to the Yemen Petroleum Company (YPC) and is located near the Houthi-held capital.
The evacuation warning came after a series of deadly Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia, particularly targeting Riyadh airport.
Following the warning, many civilians in Sanaa rushed to fuel stations to queue for petrol, fearing potential shortages, according to AFP’s correspondent.
However, the Yemen Petroleum Company sought to reassure the public, saying it had taken the necessary precautions to respond to any emergency and ensure supplies met people’s needs.
In a statement, the company said the Al-Sabaha facilities currently held no stocks of petroleum products and that any strike on the site would therefore not affect fuel reserves or supply chains.
The YPC added that fuel stocks for public consumption were available at secure facilities and locations in sufficient quantities to meet demand for an extended period.
The reported strike comes amid heightened tensions between the Saudi-led coalition and Yemen’s Houthi movement, which controls Sanaa and large parts of the country. Further details about the reported strike and the extent of any damage were not immediately available.
