Erbil Hosts Kurdistan Region’s First International Hospitality Exhibition
HOSPEX brings together more than 140 local and international companies from 10 countries to showcase hospitality technologies and products, strengthen business ties, and support tourism development in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Erbil opened its first international exhibition dedicated to the hospitality sector on Wednesday, bringing together more than 140 local and international companies to showcase the latest products, technologies, and services for hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality businesses.
Known as HOSPEX, the four-day exhibition runs from Oct. 14 to 17 at the Erbil International Fairground, providing a platform for companies to explore business opportunities, establish commercial partnerships, and contribute to the development of the hospitality and tourism industries in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
According to Kurdistan24 correspondent Renas Ali, 50 local companies and 90 international companies from 10 countries are participating in the exhibition, displaying products and technologies related to hotels, restaurants, hospitality equipment, and tourism services.
The exhibition is the first of its kind in the region specifically focused on equipment and products used in hotels, restaurants, homes, and public spaces. Its objectives include attracting foreign companies, promoting locally manufactured products, and strengthening commercial ties between domestic and international businesses.
Kurdistan24 is the exhibition’s media sponsor and is providing coverage of the event. The exhibition opens to visitors daily at 11:00 a.m.
Tourism Development Creates Opportunities for Hospitality Sector
The exhibition comes as the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) continues to promote tourism as a means of diversifying the regional economy, attracting investment, supporting private-sector growth, and creating employment opportunities.
The Kurdistan Region’s combination of mountain landscapes, cooler summer destinations, historical sites, cultural heritage, and urban attractions has helped establish tourism as an important area of economic development.
Erbil, with its historic citadel, expanding commercial districts, restaurants, and accommodation facilities, serves as a key center for business and leisure travel.
KRG policies aimed at developing tourism, improving infrastructure, encouraging private investment, and promoting the region as a destination have created opportunities for hotels, restaurants, travel operators, and other hospitality businesses to expand.
Efforts to improve visitor services and attract domestic and international tourists also increase demand for modern facilities, professional standards, and innovative hospitality technologies.
As tourism activity grows, businesses increasingly require investment in accommodation, food services, sanitation, energy efficiency, digital booking systems, and other technologies that improve service quality and operational performance.
International exhibitions such as HOSPEX can help connect local businesses with global suppliers, giving them access to new products, expertise, and commercial partnerships.
The participation of 90 international companies alongside 50 local firms offers an opportunity for domestic businesses to explore new suppliers and technologies while presenting locally available products to a wider market.
Such connections can support competition, encourage knowledge transfer, and help hospitality operators respond to changing visitor expectations.
Beyond hotels and restaurants, the development of the hospitality sector can generate demand across a wider network of businesses, including food producers, furniture manufacturers, cleaning and maintenance services, transport providers, and tourism operators. This creates potential for tourism investment to contribute to broader private-sector activity across the Kurdistan Region.
HOSPEX therefore provides a commercial platform at a time when tourism development and investment in visitor services are increasingly relevant to the region’s economic diversification efforts.
Its longer-term impact will depend on the business partnerships, investment decisions, and market opportunities that emerge from the exhibition.
