Iranian FM: Iran Will Not Bow to Any Power, Offers Hormuz Deal
Iran’s foreign minister says Tehran offered Washington a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, as its spokesman accuses the US of violating a deal.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iran has put a seven-day plan to end the war with the United States and normalize traffic through the Strait of Hormuz on the table, while warning that Tehran will never kneel before any power, the country’s foreign minister said Wednesday.
In an article for the British newspaper the Financial Times, published by Iranian state media, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reflected on his meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
He said all of them carried one shared message: Tehran wants a just and honorable agreement with Washington, but its main condition is that the White House bring its aggression to a practical end.
Araghchi revealed the details of a new proposal that has been conveyed to Washington through mediating countries.
Under the roadmap, the steps are clearly defined. The Strait of Hormuz would be fully reopened on the sixth day, and negotiations toward a final agreement would resume on the seventh. Life in the region would then return to normal, stage by stage.
The foreign minister stressed that Iran no longer trusts American claims of seeking peace. In earlier phases, he said, Iranian sites were bombed while negotiations were still under way.
He added that US President Donald Trump decided to go to war on the basis of wrong information and a misjudgment of the Iranian people’s resilience.
Iran’s armed forces, he said, gained great experience in earlier confrontations and are fully prepared to defend the country.
Araghchi also addressed the economic fallout of the war. After eight months of conflict, he said, international data, including reports by Moody’s, show the war has cost American citizens nearly $265 billion this year alone.
That amounts to nearly $2,000 per household, he said, largely because of the sharp rise in oil and energy prices.
He closed his statement with a warning that the Strait of Hormuz has no alternative route and will remain a strong card in Iran’s hands forever. “We can only escape this crisis when the White House acknowledges that the military option against Iran has failed.
Iran is heir to an ancient civilization and will not kneel before any superpower, but if we see a genuine will for a just solution, we are ready to give diplomacy another chance,” Araghchi stated.
Baghaei: US violated June understanding
Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said the United States has attacked Iran twice in the past nine months, both times in the middle of negotiations, and has violated the understanding of June 17.
He also stressed that the world is paying the price of Washington’s aggression and of instability in global markets.
In a message on the social media platform X on Wednesday about the negotiation process between Tehran and Washington, Baghaei wrote that the United States attacked Iran twice during talks over the past nine months.
He recalled a number of incidents. The United States, he said, carried out a massacre at a school in Minab, killed Iranian girls in Lamerd, and assassinated Iranian leaders, while also tightening sanctions on the Iranian people.
Baghaei accused Washington of breaking the understanding the two sides signed on June 17 of this year. He said the United States is now asking other countries to condemn Iran.
He added that the world is now paying the price for America’s illegal aggression in the region and for instability in global markets.
