ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - European countries have reaffirmed their support for the Kurdistan Region and value its role in regional stability, Delavar Ajgeyi, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) representative to the European Union, said on Thursday.

Ajgeyi said the KRG has for some time been holding a series of meetings with European countries, at the level of parliaments and foreign ministries. He said the aim is to ensure that coordination between the Kurdistan Region and the EU continues and to strengthen the Region’s international relations, particularly after the withdrawal of coalition forces from Iraq.

He said the KRG has asked European countries to continue supporting the Region and the Peshmerga forces. According to Ajgeyi, all the countries, especially Belgium and the Netherlands, have reaffirmed their support for the Region and expressed readiness for every form of coordination.

The KRG representative said these countries believe the Region has played an important role in regional stability and in resolving problems, particularly the issue of Western Kurdistan (Northern Syria) and the peace process in Türkiye. They stress that a strong Region will lead to strong stability in the area, he said, and they praised the efforts of Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region.

Ajgeyi added that a number of high-level European delegations were due to visit the Kurdistan Region. Because of unstable conditions at airports and the suspension of some flights, he said, the visits have been postponed and will take place in the near future.

He said the KRG has sent European countries a number of proposals for assisting the Kurdistan Region and expects their response soon.
