ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday received Aqeel Moften, president of the National Olympic Committee of Iraq, to discuss the state of sports in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two sides.

According to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), the meeting focused on developing coordination between the KRG and the Iraqi federal government in the sports sector.

Both sides emphasized the importance of closer cooperation to advance sports development across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Sports cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government forms part of broader efforts to coordinate institutional activities and support athletic development. The National Olympic Committee of Iraq oversees the country's Olympic movement and represents Iraq in international Olympic affairs, while the Kurdistan Region has its own sports institutions and athletes who participate in domestic and international competitions.
