Iraqi PM to Visit Kuwait and Bahrain, Spokesperson Says
Al-Aboudi made the remarks in an interview with Al-Iraqiya News, saying the visits were part of the government’s efforts to deepen partnerships with neighboring and influential countries in pursuit of Iraq’s national interests.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi will visit Kuwait and Bahrain in the coming period as Baghdad seeks to strengthen regional ties and expand economic cooperation, Iraqi government spokesperson Haider al-Aboudi said on Thursday.
Al-Aboudi made the remarks in an interview with Al-Iraqiya News, saying the visits were part of the government’s efforts to deepen partnerships with neighboring and influential countries in pursuit of Iraq’s national interests.
He added that further visits to countries with strategic interests and partnerships with Baghdad were also being considered, with the aim of expanding cooperation and contributing to regional security.
Al-Aboudi said al-Zaidi’s previous visits to the United States, Turkey, Iran, Qatar, France, Germany, Jordan, and most recently Syria, reflected Baghdad’s diplomatic approach, which places particular emphasis on economic issues amid challenges linked to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
He stressed that Iraq must diversify its oil export routes rather than rely on a single strategic outlet, adding that the government was working to establish alternatives to ensure stable oil revenues.
The spokesperson also revealed that Baghdad was nearing an agreement with an international consortium led by Chevron to build an oil pipeline through Syria to Baniyas port on the Mediterranean Sea.
Al-Aboudi described al-Zaidi’s visit to Damascus as an important economic milestone that helped ease months of tensions between the two countries. He said bilateral trade had exceeded $250 million.
