Iraqi Defense Ministry Spokesperson Congratulates Kurdistan24
Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesperson Yahya Rasool congratulates Kurdistan24 on its 11th anniversary, urging accurate journalism and action against misinformation.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Major General Yahya Rasool, spokesperson for Iraq's Ministry of Defense, congratulated Kurdistan24 on its 11th anniversary on Saturday, describing it as an outstanding television channel and urging media organizations across Iraq to uphold accuracy, national responsibility and public trust.
In a message dated Oct. 31, 2026, Rasool extended his congratulations to the broadcaster's journalists, technical personnel and other employees. He also used the occasion to address what he described as the responsibilities of journalists and satellite television stations toward Iraqi society.
"On the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the establishment of Kurdistan24, I extend my warmest congratulations to all employees of this respected channel, as well as to all staff members, technicians and everyone who works at your outstanding channel," he said.
His message did not focus solely on the broadcaster's anniversary. Rasool called for a consistent commitment to precision in reporting and said the same professional expectations should apply to other media outlets, journalists and people working in the industry.
"My message to your channel, to all satellite channels, and to all journalists, media professionals and media staff is that our message must be precise, accurate and national," he said.
The Defense Ministry spokesperson connected those standards with the importance he places on cooperation among Iraqis. Media organizations, he argued, should help maintain a sense of common purpose among citizens rather than contribute to division or the distortion of public understanding.
"Its objective should be for the Iraqi people to remain one people, to support one another and cooperate with each other. We must stand against those who seek to mislead public opinion and Iraqi citizens," Rasool said.
He did not identify particular media organizations or individuals as responsible for misleading the public. Instead, his appeal was directed broadly at the profession, presenting accurate reporting and resistance to misinformation as responsibilities shared by journalists and broadcasters.
Rasool also offered a personal message of encouragement to Kurdistan24's workforce, expressing the hope that the channel would continue to carry out its work with honesty, consistency and professional success.
"I pray to Almighty God that you will always remain national, truthful, steadfast and successful in your media mission," he said.
He concluded by thanking those working at the channel, including employees whose contributions take place outside the newsroom and in technical operations. The statement was signed by Major General of the Special Forces Yahya Rasool Abdullah in his capacity as spokesperson for Iraq's Ministry of Defense.
His anniversary message combined congratulations to Kurdistan24 with an appeal to the wider Iraqi media sector to provide accurate information and avoid misleading the public.
