ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Sabah al-Numan, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, congratulated Kurdistan24 on its 11th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 31, praising its field reporting and calling for accurate, responsible coverage of security developments across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Numan addressed his congratulations to Kurdistan24's management and employees, acknowledging the broadcaster's role in covering developments on the ground.
"I extend my warmest congratulations to the management and staff of Kurdistan24 and commend the channel's active role in news coverage and field reporting on events," he said in his message.
Beyond the anniversary greeting, Numan outlined what he described as the responsibilities of news organizations when reporting on security matters. He said media institutions could contribute to public stability by maintaining accuracy and exercising national responsibility.
In his assessment, cooperation between the media, the armed forces and security institutions was important to preserving stability. He urged outlets operating throughout Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to approach their reporting in ways that strengthen social unity and uphold the country's sovereignty.
A central part of his message concerned the sources journalists use when covering military operations and security incidents. Numan emphasized obtaining such information from official channels, arguing that this would limit opportunities for misleading platforms to spread alarm.
He drew particular attention to areas inhabited by diverse communities, where he said inaccurate or misleading security reports could generate anxiety. His remarks linked the handling of sensitive information to the wider responsibility of maintaining public confidence and social cohesion.
Numan also addressed the economic and development priorities facing Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
He said media coverage at the current stage should highlight efforts toward development and economic stability, alongside the role of security institutions in protecting the country's territory and airspace.
The spokesperson's comments placed Kurdistan24's anniversary within a broader discussion of the relationship between journalism, public information and security institutions. His emphasis was on accuracy in reporting security developments and the effects that circulating information can have on public perceptions of stability.
