ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, discussed political and diplomatic opportunities and initiatives to establish peace and stability in the region during a phone call on Friday.

During the conversation, Araghchi presented Iran’s vision for preparations to resume negotiations, which was put forward before the US midterm elections. He explained that the vision includes setting a timetable for launching the negotiation process and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. It also includes returning to the points addressed in the Pakistan-mediated understandings, along with adding several points related to Iran’s nuclear file.

For his part, Hussein said the region is passing through a period of heightened tension, particularly given the continued possibility of renewed military confrontation. He stressed the need for practical steps to contain the tensions and create the conditions required to ease the complications.

In that context, the Iraqi foreign minister put forward an initiative to form a committee made up of the foreign ministers of several regional countries. The committee would visit Tehran and Washington to explore ways of reaching peaceful understandings that help resolve disputes and strengthen regional stability.

At the end of the call, Hussein thanked his Iranian counterpart. He emphasized the importance of continued communication and coordination among the countries of the region, especially neighbors, in order to support efforts aimed at avoiding tension and consolidating security and stability.
